English Proficiency and Qualification Comparison
Overview
When you apply for a UK visa, you should use our English Proficiency and Qualification Comparison if you want to evidence:
- that your overseas qualification is comparable to a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in the UK
- the level of English proficiency needed to complete the course
How we check your qualification
When assessing qualifications, we look at factors including:
- entry requirements to the course
- the syllabus studied
- your course length
- whether your course is taught solely in English and the level required to achieve the degree
- a comparison against UK education frameworks
This list is not exhaustive, and we consider many factors to evaluate your qualification.
We will contact your awarding institution to confirm that the qualification is genuine. Without this, we will be unable to complete processing your application.
Your level of English will be determined in relation to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) (opens in a new tab). We will not state an English level if you have studied at an institution in a majority English speaking country as defined by the Home Office (opens in a new tab).
You can find out more about how we assess applications by reading about our methodology.
Outcome of your application
If your application is successful
If your application has been successful, you will receive a code in the portal.
This code will confirm that the qualification presented:
- is comparable to a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree level qualification in the UK
- has been confirmed as genuine by the awarding institution
- confirms the required level of English needed to complete the course
You will need to share the code with the Home Office as part of your visa application.
If your application is not successful
If your application is not successful, we will not send you a code to use in your Home Office visa application.
If this happens, we cannot refund you because the cost of the service is for Ecctis to evaluate your qualification.
Your application might not be successful because:
- your qualification is not genuine
- your awarding institution did not confirm your qualification as genuine within 20 working days
- your qualification is not eligible
